Google PageRank Update for 2010
I thought for a while PageRank was no longer one of the factors Google used to rank your site and now almost everybody seems to talk about it. For those who do not know, PageRank as described by Google:
“ relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.”
To simplify, it’s one of the factor used to measure a sites’ importance through the quality of links in terms of relevancy linking back to it. It is considered to be one of the most important factors to determine its Google Ranking on Search Engine Result Page (SeRP). The higher the PageRank the higher, the chance on appearing on SeRP.
Almost everybody was happy when Google rolled out PageRank for everybody. Well I guess guys we better continue our efforts to build links. We can never tell when Google is rolling out another PageRank for everyone.
Google Dashboard Review
Perhaps, I am already one the people who’s completely amazed with what Google Dashboard could do, anyway Google never cease to amaze me. Aside from their Google Analytics, AdWords and Adsense, I am completely satisfied with the current Google Dashboard released; perhaps because it keeps me organize.
My initial impression is that it gives me quick access to every Google service I use. GMail, Google Chat, even the Calendar is accessible with just one click. Local search is possible too, pretty amazing how it does that. What’s more, even file you already forgot could be searched using Google Local Search.
Google Dashboard exactly tells you how much Google knows about you, it summarizes the data of each service you use. To give you a few of the products offered by Google that you may find interesting, I list down those that I personally use and accessible also in Dashboard.
- Google Alerts – Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.
- Google Blogger – is a free blog publishing tool from Google for easily sharing your thoughts with the world. Blogger makes it simple to post text, photos and video onto your personal or team blog.
- Google Calendar – With Google’s free online calendar, it’s easy to keep track of life’s important events all in one place.
- Google Docs – Create and edit web-based documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Store documents online and access them from any computer.
- Google Reader – Read them in one place with Google Reader, where keeping up with your favorite websites is as easy as checking your email.
- Google Talk – Chat with family and friends over the Internet for free.
- iGoogle - is your personalized Google page. Add news, photos, weather, and stuff from across the web to your page.
- Gmail – email from Google. Gmail is built on the idea that email can be more intuitive, efficient, and useful.
- Web History – Web page tracking, which records Google searches, Web pages, images, videos, music and more. It also includes Bookmarks, search trends and item recommendations.
- YouTube - Popular free video sharing Web site which lets users upload, view, and share video clips.
All this are just one of the few products of Google that could be access and controlled over one application – Google dashboard. Though it’s kind of creepy to know how much data Google knows about you, personally I will continue using it.
